The
Military Families Foundation (MFF) serves military families suffering from
hardship as a result of service to our Country. The foundation was
started as a way to help out some military friends of mine serving as Army
commanders over in Iraq and Afghanistan. Initially, we collected
money for phone cards as communications were very difficult in the early
days of the war. However,
in 2004, after conversations with several commanders,
a bigger need became apparent and I decided to change the
focus of our efforts to supporting the Army's Family Readiness Group
program. As such, your donation provides funds to help military spouses
organize into sanctioned support groups to help their own in times of need.
In 2005, a
friend of mine offered to provide tax exempt status through a Florida
Non-Profit Corporation. As of January, 31st, 2005, the MFF is a tax
exempt charitable organization under section 501 (c) 3 of the Internal
Revenue Code. You can see the filing here.
In 2006,
because of the increasing need for funds, we decided to put together a
summer fund raising campaign. To raise awareness for our efforts we
sponsored a rider in the Bicycle Race Across America (RAAM). We hope to raise awareness and collect
significant donations for this ride.
The Foundation is supported entirely by volunteers
and all costs are underwritten by companies I am involved with. Thus,
100% of your donation is distributed directly to deployed soldiers
through the Military's Family Readiness Group Program.
Since 2003, thanks to your help, we collected and sent
over $100,000 worth of
cash, gifts and services to the troops and their families.
